Today you’re two months old! You have a miraculous ability to make time fly and make special moments stand still-all at the same time. I spend almost every moment with you and a part of me (the zombie part that doesn’t require sleep) is still so happy when I hear you stir around 4am. Because Even in my sleep-I missed you! Speaking of sleep, you really like it. You do grace us with your conscious presence much more than in the early weeks, but you still take several long naps a day and with the exception of your second favorite hobby, eating, you sleep most of the night. When your daddy comes home from work, you never turn down an opportunity to nap on his chest. Sometimes I join you four-because Bailey and Obie are napping too, of course. Mostly though I’m too distracted by the cuteness of it all!
You’re doing all sorts of new things these days. You smile at people, noises, songs, and bulldog licks. You no longer tolerate the blue nose sucker, the nail file, and other annoyances that come along with life. Once you decide you’re hungry (which I’m pretty sure you have an invisible baby watch hidden somewhere because it’s usually exactly 3 hours after your last bottle), you make cute noises and attempt to suck the life out of anything within reach for a few minutes. You smile patiently UNTIL…you determine that we have crossed the line! You then proceed to scream and flail about. This scares the dogs…very much. They run for cover. Obie hides under your crib.
You’re working on holding your head up and your approach to this milestone has highlighted the first of many ways I’m sure that we are just alike. We both accomplish what matters-we just do it in our own time. I know you’ll get there and your Daddy is an excellent source of the reminder not to worry. He’s also pointed out that if we had a triple chin and a head as big as yours (relative to your body!), it would be no easy feat to keep that thing steadily balanced.
The coming month offers us a new challenge as a family when I return to work. It’ll be the last step in my degree. I know it’s what’s best for our family and the young patients I’ll be able to help, but I’ll miss you every second that I’m away. Save all your REALLY awesome tricks for when I get home, ok? And the weekends will be all ours.
Keep growing my little Hannikins-just not too fast. You are-by far-the biggest, best, greatest, and most fun accomplishment of my life and hopefully someday you’ll agree that it wasn’t all that boring before you came along. Happy 2 months!
Love,
Mommy
P.S. We’re taking these crazy pictures of you laying on different blankets and fabrics to see how much you’ve grown from month to month. You’re only cooperative with smiles BEFORE I precariously climb on our not-so-sturdy table for the aeriel view.

Kara,
What an amazing journey you have embarked on!
I am so happy to “witness” (through pictures, blogs, videos, etc.) the fantastic experience you are going through… Motherhood. In a couple of weeks, you’ll be starting another new experience: Internship. I send you my best wishes for a successful and fun internship combined with drops of patience and faith that it will all turn out great!
God willing, we’ll see each other again soon.
With Love,
Thayra
Thank you so much Thayra. I miss you, Alex, Krystal, and the whole Miami crew. I appreciate the internship pep talk and will probably need another one very soon! I am excited though-once I start I can finish!
